I mean we now know all the risks of it. Not only can it give it you skin cancer, but it makes you UGLY. My aunt has been tanning since she was in her early teens and she is only 35 years old, but she honestly looks like she is 60. She looks like an old, leathery shoe. Do girls (and some guys) understand that this is what they will look like? Plus, doesnt it gross you out that the sun is literally FRYING your skin, a delicate, vital organ? Tanning is not cool, it is gross. Plus it looks really stupid when a person with beautiful milky white skin just goes and fries it to a crisp. It is not attractive. If you MUST tan, then get a fake tan!

I agree!! I am 39 years old and have stayed out of the sun for years. I look way younger then my peers and have better skin then women that are in their early 20's. no wrinkles!
People don't realize it will catch up to them..and when it does it isnt pretty!

For the one who said that she is allergic to sunscreens-- Have you tried the natural ones? I got a bit paranoid about the chemicals in the traditional sunscreens and thought about getting some natural sunscreen for this summer while I'm pregnant. Then I read that the chemicals barely penetrate the skin to cause problems. I was concerned about my baby.

That being said, I still didn't wear the sunscreen the way I should have last week on our trip. Eh. We put it on in the morning before we left the hotel, but neglected to reapply it a few hours later. Oops.

As it is, I don't spend much time in the sun in the summer. When I walk, it's after four or three with sunscreen. Yesterday afternoon, I ran some errands and just made sure I walked quickly from my car to the stores just to keep out of the sun. Although, come to think of it, I might still apply it to my left arm and the left side of my face the next time I do that. (Or the right side if my husband is driving.) I've heard that the rays can get through the car windows, too. Oy.

Sure it makes you look ugly when your old, but attractive while your young. Most people have the mindset that the future will never come. Like you, i know a few ladies who are about 40, but look 60. Personally, I think a little bit of sun is good, but getting seriously sunburnt 3+ times greatly increses your chance of cancer (Major problem in Australia). Last summer I went to the beach, and burnt hard - I thought it would turn into a tan, and it did but only after about a week and a half of painful blistering and peeling. Most of the time what happens is you end up peeling the dead layers of skin that you thought would tan you. I reckon best stay out of the sun (or be protected), and stay away from those nasty spray on tans!
ps. Also, I believe in China you are actually more attractive the paler you are.

Yes, please don't remind me. I used to tan in my teens, fortunately only for a year but man did it screw up my skin. I've been out of the sun for 10 years now and use sunblock and skin creams........I've even had chemical and laser peels to remove the damaged skin. Still, my skin will never be perfect.

But that is the least of it, I have been diagnosed with skin cancer twice and I cannot believe people still continue to tan when the risks are so high.

I wish I could turn back the clock, but I can't. What I would like to do is boycott the local tanning salons, but I don't think people will listen....they are too caught up in looking good now and paying later.

I don't even bother with fake tans now, I love being pale lol.

Well a light tan can be nice. But with everything if in excess it becomes bad. Its all peoples preference though. Some people are attracted to other people with tans. While others such as yourself find it to be gross. Also, some people just have a natural tan just from being out in the sun a lot and some do it because they feel it makes them look good. All personal preference

I tan because I'm allergic to sunscreen and don't have a choice and yes I have tried ever type of sunscreen. It doesn't bother me though people went out in the sun all day for years before sunscreen was invented, half of my family have been farmers and worked out in the sun all day everyday, not one of them ever got skin cancer the only way any of them ever died was old age. And if I do get skin cancer I'll deal with that when I come to it.

I suppose some people find skin cancer appealing. Trust me, I've seen people that have skin cancer and it isn't always the prettiest site, especially after they go in for treatments.

everyone is entitled to their own opinion on tanning just like smoking. Tanning is benificial for some skin disorders like acne and eczema. As for me I don't want to look like a vampire. I'm 40 and look younger than I am, I just don't tan year round. As for a fake tan, thats not tan thats orange.

I doubt that your aunt would appreciate your opinion of her, maybe you should get a job instead of being critical of your aunts looks and your boyfriends ability to keep an erection
