The Lord of The Rings of course. One based on a Disneyland ride, and the other on a classic novel? The novel with it's detail and subject is far more interesting. Though Pirates of the Carribean was fun. LoTR for the win.

Lord of the Rings in my opinion is nicer. The story has more sense and it tells true friendship is being together to the end and is more than just a simple promise. Anyway, the story is action type but also shows some other kind of elements like love and hope. Wherein Pirates of Caribbean is more with serious actions. That's my opinion since I'm a fan of LOTR and watch the DVD every chance I get.

Lord of the Rings as a whole. But I do like the first Pirates film better than the LotR trilogy...

Though I'm a fan of both, I have to admit that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was better. It was straightforward and kept to the point. Pirates of the Caribbean was rather draggy and boring in some places. In addition, I thought the LOTR had better acting in it. Nevertheless, Johnny Depp still remains as the talented actor he will always be. Overall, I thought Peter Jackson did justice to a great book.

I'm not a fan of either movies. Lord of the rings was waaaaay to long.
Pirates of the Carribean was entertaining, but the sequels were flops.
Johnny Depp is an entertaing actor, in all his movies, except POTC sequels.
Matrix trilogy rocked !!

haven't seen third POTC, but I would have to say Lord Of The Rings was the nicer trilogy as it was based off good books and had very good graphics from the PC... but I like both trilogies.

lord of the rings of course.though i prefer harry potter.
lotr has a interesting story plot.quick to the point.
pirates of the carribean is rather draggy to the point.after watching Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl i refuse to watch the 2nd one.

Good question.
My personal favorite is Pirates, it is my all time favorite movie series. I like it better because it is so funny and Captain Jack Sparrow is just so darned cool.
But Lord of the Rings is my second-favorite movie series, and it's really really good too.
I think POTC has better effects and acting,
and LOTR has better character development and writing. (although it's kind of unfair to compare the writing considering that LOTR has Tolkien and POTC has a Disney ride to start with .....)
They are all great movies, but POTC wins by a little bit.
at least that's my personal prefference.

Lord of the Rings, hands down.
-Some parts of Pirates are obviously slapstick (and stupid), but LotR has none of those.
-Better acting overall. YES, DEPP PWNS IN ACTING but OVERALL.
-Some parts of Pirates get rather boring...but not so for LotR, imo:)
LotR is just...better. And oh yeah, there was probably more effort put in. Did you know that Peter Jackson (LotR director) made the cast redo a 1 1/2 minute scene 26 times until he was happy with it?
