I often hear politicians discuss the above mentioned topic and find myself wondering how many generations this would take to achieve and after observing liberal countries such as the UK, Germany, Holland and many other European countries where racism is on the rise, I wonder why, if they could not accomplish this then how could we?
What are your thoughts?

no....the black underclass has been oppressed so long that just like my people here in America, they have internalized their inferiority

the "colored" people do fairly well but remain insular to a degree

the Indians, Afrikaaners, and WASPs are all doing pretty well, are insular, and really don't care for others

There are too many deep seated issues that no one (South Africans themselves, not the government) will address so NO

And by the way...racism has always been a factor in UK, Germany, Holland, and the other countries...

Racism came about to justify slavery and colonialism during and on the heels of the powerful and enlightened nations. It is worth noting that it came at the time when the feudal inheritance was on the attack. The purveyors of enlightenment argued that "all men are created equal" and what they make of themselves depends on their actions, not who their parents were or whether or not God chose them.

But at the same breath Africans were being brutalised as slaves. The same fate befell Native Americans who were systematically exterminated. While the “enlightened” proclaimed “all men are created equal” they held a view that Africans and Native Americans can’t be treated equal; “they aren't people", they argued.

I accept that there is a feeling amongst the original “culprit race” in SA that they are now victims. There might be an element of truth in their lament but that is not the subject of the matter in this answer.

Sadly, most racism is passed along from generation to generation. The new generation might show it subtly. But there will always be racism around, both overt and covert.

Racism will never be eradicated until we accept that all groups have racist elements, not just whites. Blacks (Coloured, Africans, Indians) and Whites all have their racist members and denying this will not make it go away.

If you ask other people, they will say; “what's wrong with racism? It is a perfectly natural part of life”. This is to a large extent true, but is it right? So this indicates that we will never get rid of racism; at least not in the near future.

A direct honest answer to your question is that human beings are complex and I don't think we will ever be able to completely overcome racism. I don't believe racism can ever be eliminated, unless one day we all interbreed to an extent that all people around the world would have the same skin colour and physical characteristics. That way we would have a complete transformation in our sense of self, in the way we create our identity.

In the meantime what we might attempt to do however is to educate people, create social spaces where people from different backgrounds may come and share experiences.

South Africa along with Columbia is one of the most violent countries on the planet. Yes crime happens everywhere, but don't be fooled, it's the frequency of crime in SA that is alarming. And yes SA has had a troubled past, but I've yet to see a connection proven between poverty/disadvantaged history and crimes like rape and murder, for which, incidentally, SA is a world leader! It's pretty much one way traffic out of SA at the moment (unless you're an illegal entering from the North) and anyone considering emigrating to SA has obviously not done their homework and are most likely responding to whim. It's a beautiful country, but as we know sometimes beauty is only skin deep, and in this case the saying couldn't be more appropriate. Once you scratch beneath the surface....

Put immigration problems aside.
I used to live in Germany and let me tell you, racism is on the rise.
But why?! It used to be that rising unemployment was the great opportunity for former Nazis to draw the attention of young people and blame foreigners who are hard working for taking (stealing) their work places. Meetings were held in little rooms back at bars and else, and so, the youth, who didn't really want to work, had a good excuse for not finding work. As well, and that counts for most countries and their racists, it is a matter of growing up and education given by the parents.
There are more people out there who are against racism, but most will not say it, because they are afraid of speaking up against rude, aggressive racists!

People like to find the differences in other groups and people.
And then make war on them.

This is obvious in even small things like:
Smokers vs Non smokers
Vegetarian vs Meat eaters
Blondes vs brunettes (That's people with dark hair)
etc etc.

I think therefore a totally non racial SA is unlikely BUT it doesn't have to be bad, especially if we all just accept that we are all different and yet all human!
The rest can be got over.

Never happen sadly it's just a pipe dream, the rise of racism in Europe is being caused by the influx of illegal immigrants after awhile demanding rights they have not earned and generally the rise in crime in the areas they move into.
