(since calculators is related to maths, im posting it here)

i think this is one of the stupidest question ever posted

but im just wondering, why does almost everyone in the world press the "C" or "AC" which is the clear or all clear ( i think ) button of a calculator repeatedly after a calculator before going onto the next one??

i mean why do they spam the clear button like as though it were a ps controller button, haha

if calculators had games in them, then it wouldnt be strange, but sadly they dont.

so why?

Did you mean that?
Well that feels goooooood! LOL.

Emmm, I have no idea why other people do this.
I can only tell you why I do this.
when trying to transfer some figures and the functions to be done on them from paper to the calculator, we key in the whole thing with our eyes going back and forth on the paper and the calculator.
But when we find the answer and we want to get ready for the next series of numbers and functions, we do not look at the calculator. It has definitely happend to yow that you pressed a key on your calculator but it was not detected as you did not press properly.
The same thing goes to the C and AC bottons.people don't look at the calculator and they press it several times just to make sure they have pressed it properly and the calculator is ready for the new procedure.
That's all.
and it hurts no one and tha's not gonna damage the calculator either but it sure might prevent a mistake in your calculations.
so let's cheers for

C AC C AC C AC C AC C AC C AC C AC

If you have a running calculation (e.g. 4+2-1+555-3) and you had mistyped the "3", hitting the "C" button once would clear only that "3" and leave the 4+2-1+555 intact.

Hitting the "C" more than once would clear the whole formula.

People who you use calculators know you need to hit "one of those C/AC buttons more than once" sometimes. To make their lives simpler, they simply choose to hit them both 3-5 times "just to make sure".

I think the action also works to help clear their own heads and let's them focus on the next problem more easily.

I hope that helps.

The calculator too has memory registers and they do indeed need to be cleared before starting the next calculation.

Really, you have nothing better to do? It's just a button, what does it hurt?
While I have never used one, if one is using a RPN calculator, I suspect one may not want the last result on the stack.
