In a larger sense religion has brought to focus the faith in the almighty( god) and the need to be grateful to the almigjhty for whatever has been given by IT to the mankind.There is no second opinion about it.

In another sense , religion has also emphasized the need for spirituality in human lives. This is also religion`s great contribution .

What subsequently evolved was that each religion saw its God differently. It didnot stop at that . The religion went on to say that the Gods that the other regions were seeing were all satans or evils. In the whole process of asserting one`s religion Spirituality was pushed to the background and rituals , blind faiths and punishments were made important.

Religion united the people. religious leaders divided the people for their own survival and power.

Friend,

I will quote from a famous book, about religion.I liked that definition or explanation more meaningful.So i am trying to quote it, with courtesy to the authour.Remember i do not have any bias for any religion and I respect all/so read it witha open mind please.

Here we go;

'' Religion is not for the animals;among the buffaloes and tigers we have no religion.Religion is the remedy to the particular unrest felt by man, even whenhe is fully equipped with all the best in life.Religion is the technique by which an individual gets his mind and intellect trained to grasp and understand the larger themes of the universe and his own exact place in it.
To the materialists, who, claim that Religion is an extravagant luxury of the rich, there is no perceptible need felt within,and so they need no intellectual theory,spirutual surroundings nor divine endeavours for the satisfaction of their sense of spirutual unrest.Religion serves mainly the evolved ones who have the intelligence to watch life as a whole while living their own personal life and who have discriminaion to feel the imperfections of it all and who have the cultural energy to seek and regain a greater and satisfying perfection.Unless the impatience felt by the individual at the sorrow scheme of things outside and within himself is accute, he will not seek thw way to grow out of that state of affairs.To the seekers, Religion points out the way;and in this sense ths Hindu Religion is a perfect ''science of self prfection'' comprising in it of a complete technique.'

this is a reproduction from a famous book, there is much to write but space and other things are some problems.i made a notes of it. there is no hard and fast rule that you agree with this.

you may read it open mind and if not good enough ,leave it.

No bias or any other things are there.Every one has his own faith and reigion.Let them follow their own paths.All roads lead to Rome/The only point is there Roads that are smooth,comfortable,short and happily take you there soon.That is all.

Religion gave a unique identity to human beings showing a way to think beyond the physical and mental..... the nature of this unique identity, whether desirable or not, depends on whether we can be broad-minded or not... all the ills of religion lie in our narrow-minded and self-seeking approach. The question is whether religion itself is the cause for such an approach by the majority followers.... the answer in my view is... yes, it rakes up such passions as can easily lead to the undesirable approach.

Religion has done nothing.It is a few individuals who have reeked havoc on mankind using religion as their weapon.This in turn has given religion a bad name enticing others to use it as an excuse to vent their anger and to stir up trouble which gives them the feeling of some form of satisfaction to ease their miserable lives.
