The first build is the most challenging, the second one is more interesting and the third is a walk in the park. Try your hands first on an old PC that is gathering dust. Try reviving it. Even w/ out a hard drive, CD drive or FDD, you should be able to enter BIOS menu and play around w/ those settings.

Basics of computer? Uh huh, very nice. But I suggest getting a computer tailor made is better rather than screwing up the whole PC i.e. PSU blow up for the first time.
If you get a graphics card like X2900XT have a 8 pin connector which you can plug any 8 pin connector in easily and put in the 8 pin connector which is mostly intended for dual core CPUs, you'll blow the card for sure. Sure it looks easy to built but will you mess up the wires? And if you mess it up the parts get damaged for real.
So what do you do? I think most computer shops will be able to help you to do it. Is it worth trying putting a computer together and blowing up PSU and hardware?

Building computer system from devices as simple as playing LEGO toys. All you have to compile them properly.
You probably need following tools: (list of mandatory items)
Motherboard, Processor, RAM, Power supply, bunch of wires, disk drives... etc
