You're obviously no liberal and thats fine. I am, but I think your question deserves a star. While I support stem cell research, I appreciate the creative wit of your question. You also, simultaneously, have made observation of the political tactic of using fear to motivate the masses. There are two other current politians in an office higher than Speaker of the House that use this same tactic to sell the war and other profitable goods. If you are sharp enough to decipher N.P. discussing stem cells then you have obviously observed this (as I have) from the White House. There are many congressmen of either party that could use a new spine!

With all due respect, if you really are interested in debating this subject, I'd suggest you do a bit of research. You could begin with the distinction between a 'fetus' and an 'embryo'. What is being discussed is 'embryonic stem cell research'. The embryos being used (produced by in vitro fertilization) are donated, surplus and stored frozen, not implanted. If they will not be used to treat infertility, they will eventually be destroyed and not destroyed as the result of abortion. Do some research on your own.
...and to answer your question: No, Nancy Pelosi is not trying to scare U.S citizens into using aborted fetuses for a new spine.

It is my opinion that we should move forward with stem cell research. However I don't think that the embryonic stem cell route is the only way to go or even a necessary route.
The stem cell treatments being used today don't use embryo's. Though subject to change the last report I read stated that we are still about 1 year away from even testing human applications of treatments using embryonic stem cells. I am confident that science can find ways to provide all the treatments that people suggest could come from embryonic stem cells, through other methods. Methods that don't carry the same ethical questions as embryonic stem cell use. They already have in some cases.
If we can avoid the ethical debate altogether, by using alternative methods, then lets do it. I think we can.

Aside from the fact that embryonic stem cells have YET to be shown effective in doing anything other than creating tumors in lab mice, and are at least a year away from human testing... And ignoring the fact that adult stem cells (even those from the patient!) have been used successfully to cure numerous diseases and ailments since the 00's...
Sounds to me like another way to attempt to legitimize abortion--(if it's okay to experiment on human embryos, we can abort fetuses no problem!).
What's this nonsense that it's "okay" because the embryos were never going to be used? They are still taking embryos and using them for experiments! Where is PETH (like PETA, but for humans)?... Embryos are the origins of human life, for Pete's sake!

Like most liberals she it twisting the truth. Stem cells can come from other sources so Bush and the Religious right are 100% right on this issue. There was just a news announcement today that they found a way to make stem cells from regular cells. You inject some virus and it alters the DNA to make it a stem cell! Liberals will do anything to kill a baby but want to let all the criminals live. Very interesting.

As much as I dislike this woman, the quot you refer to is probably very accurate. Stem cell research will help cure cancer, cure heart disease, repair spinal injuries, help the blind see, and etc.
Just because the US limits stem cell research, it will still be done in other counties of the world. The questions will be, when a major discovery occurs, will the citizens here be allowed to use it, will the citizens here be able to pay for it,
will we have to go to another country to get the treatment?

Pelosi isn't trying to scare anybody. She is merely trying to point out the irrationality of opposition to stem cell research. It is too important a tool not to be developed to the fullest extent possible. Not to worry however, because ultimately opposition will be overcome. That will be especially true after the current Moron-in-Chief has left Washington. His and his political supporters' power is slowly ebbing away and soon will just be a tiny blip in the annals of American History.

The terrible thing is there are non intrusive places stem sells can be collected. You can get them from umbilical cords and placentas. Yes they also come from aborted fetuses but that doesn't mean all research should stop.
