Hi I'm trying to plan out a great day tour around Singapore and is not sure of places that are good, any ideas and suggestions?

Singapore is good for two things : food and shopping.
For food, there are so many places you can go to. But I'm going to do you a favour and spell out one place for you: Newton hawker center. It is an outdoor food court with great seafood and local food. Try the oyster omelette and the hokkien mee. Ask around for other things to try if you don't know what else to get, singaporeas are pretty helpful.
For shopping, you must check out Orchard Road. Its the place where everyone hangs out during the weekends. Shopping centers, hotels, restaurants .. it all can be found there in Orchard Road. I think the Great Singapore Sale is on now so it definitely is worth it to go down and see whats happening.
Other places to go if you have time: Sentosa (beach island off southern singapore), Zouk nightclub (the most happening nightclub in singapore), the zoo, birdpark.

If you are not in Singapore yet and will be flying into the country - try the tourist information service counter at the airport. There are so many places that you can visit. Your choice of places of interest would totally depend on what is your interest.
If you already in the country try the Tourist promotion board - being a visitor you may likely come to know of some offers that may save you some money.

Sentosa Island (Underwater World) & Merlion Park. For shopping, Bugis Street & Chinatown are the best.

City Hall, Orchard, Bugis street for shopping and Chinatown for cheap stuffs and food

Zoo and Sentosa island, knock them out in a day if you didn't mess around.
