No. It is NOT "OK" to lie on an essay or otherwise.
This is not to be confused with "fiction" when writing about something. If it suppose to be factual, then it must be truthful and completely factual.

It depends on what you are writing the essay for. If it's just a middle school or high school reflection piece, or a humorous essay or is intended to focus on form over content then it should be okay to lie. However, if the reader expects the content to be factual, it is important that you don't lie.

Maybe. Like if it's obviously a satiric or humorous essay, then you can make up facts and have all sorts of fun (see Dave Barry's essays). But if it's serious, then you need to have real facts (if you have any at all). And you need to double check them to make sure they are right.

It's possible to have an essay with no facts at all, and so you're not necessarily lying -- just saying what you feel.

Aside from factual things, that's perfectly OK. Just use common sense is all.

only if you think you can get away with it. but to be honest if your essay is being marked by a professional in the field i would stay with the facts.

um, can you really lie on an essay? i thought that was something you wrote on how you interpret something specific?
