He quit using alcohol and illegal drugs over 4 yrs. ago. However, now he has a health condition that warrants pain medication, but here's what his Dr's are giving him: 10mg. Lortab, 10 mg. Valiums, Soma, Lyrica, and long and short acting Morphine. He's not dying, like cancer, or anything like that - he has disc problems in his neck and back. But, his Dr's don't know he has this past history with the other stuff. He's given up working for now, and almost all other activities, unless you include sleeping and watching dvds. I am angry and confused. I don't know what I should do. He's considering surgery I think, but then again, I wonder how legit he is on that. I know he's in a lot of pain, but this seems to be an extreme amount of meds. What should I do? And, no, I don't want to leave him, we've been together for a long time.

hi anna!

my husband has back and hip problems and his doctor sent him to a neurologist and he gets nerve blocks...basically cortisone shots in his back and hip. maybe you should look into a "pain clinic" in your area. those pain meds make you loopy so i don't know what to tell you but call your local hospital and see if there's something like that around.

first of all, I think it's great you plan to stay with him. He needs you now more than ever. As long as he isn't abusing you, it is ok. You need to call his doctors and tell then about his alcohol and drug history and all the medications he is taking now. Does he go to different and different drugstores? If so, then let the pharmacists know. He is really addicted to prescription drugs, just like a lot iof people are. he probably is in a lot of pain. There are pain management programs you might want to discuss with his doctor. He may possibly need to go to de-tox as an inpatient to get help. Good Luck and God Bless!!!!!

No I don't think you should leave him either. He is your husband but it looks like he's traded one addiction for another .There are groups such as AL ANON that you could attend .They will help you understand the life of someone who drinks and does too much drugs and give you advice on what to do.Check your phonebook for a chapter nearest you.It is not healthy for him to take that many drugs. It could cause many problems ,mostly apnea which could stop him from breathing properly and could kill him.Get pamphlets or ask a pharmacist what could happen potentially if he takes too much of these meds then ask her for a printout and show your husband.Maybe he just needs to be scared straight.

1st-the past is just that-past ,gone-let it be gone! Pain is something NO ONE can comprehend unless you live with it ! I would recommend finding a Pain Management /Assessment Clinic in your area, also a psych eval. Uncontrollable pain may be a indication of depression and I'd go this route b/4 surgery, but then I don't know it all- just offering alternatives. Don't get mad at his actions, work together to find a solution!! It's out there!! Sounds like you love him, one LUCKY guy & he don't know it! May you both find the relief you need !!!

stick besides him --remember its through thick and thin, then after joy and happiness---have faith he seems to be out of danger now and is heading all the way to recovery. The body has to get back to normal and thats why its complaining and wants what he has been on for a long time.

Just keep encouraging him not to give up and he will make it.

Good luck

I can see you concern......but there is nothing you can do, but talk to him and his doctor!

the main addictive unlawful (schedule one million drugs, this potential that they have got not have been given any authorized medical use) drugs are all interior the Opiate type, including heroin and cocaine. of those, heroin is the main addictive. the main addictive prescribed drugs are of the benzodiazepine type, including issues like xanax and seroquel (those are basically company names and not the medical call, yet i understand xanax is Aloprozam). those are the main addictive simply by fact the physique builds a tolerance right now, and the withdrawals are worse than Opiates.

That's enough medicine to kill a horse--Seriously, this is a health emergency. Talk to his doctor immediately. If he or she sees nothing wrong with this, find another doctor. Talk to the people in AA or Narcotic Anonymous. Seek our your community resources and take their advice.

You are right, he is not in his right mind to be making major life decisions about surgery. Please help him--he needs you now more than ever.

My only advice is to speak privately with the doctor and express your concerns. Chronic pain is a frustrating problem for all concerned.

Call Alcoholics Anonymous and have them direct you to the nearest Ala-non meeting. Then call Narcotics Anonymous and have them direct you to the nearest co dependent meetings. You will not regret it. They are the best help out there.
