E. T. was based on an imaginary friend Steven Spielberg, who was something of a nerd and outcast when he was younger, had as a child . . .
so after the movie was completed, Steven Spielberg decided that he would NEVER make a sequel to it. Making the movie was simply too emotional for him, he was too close to the subject matter. It was just too painful for him, and he especially didn't want to see this concept mangled like Hollywood tends to do.
So that's why there will never be a sequel to E.T.

The movie was not nearly as good as the book. That is not uncommon. I was not pleased with the movie which I expected would be as good as the book. Maybe others felt the same way and that is why there was a sequel book (E.T the Book of the Green Planet by title) but no sequel films.

There was a sequel to E.T.,but it was in the form of a novel.I'm not sure about the title but it had to do with what happened after E.T. returned home and his efforts to return to see Elliot again. It was a very good book, that opens up allot of the background of E.T.Ask your library about it(wish I could remember the title, sorry).Good luck finding it.

Help, I got stuck here again? I think people would see through that and realize they were watching a movie about the dumbest alien ever.
