My first thought was that she's a man and can't be held in a women's jail but she couldn't have gotten in in the first place if that were true. So what could possibly be so bad that you would be allowed to stay home instead?

Well, in the real world and not in Paris Hilton world, no one gets out of jail for medical reasons unless they are dead. This is because there are clinics on the premises that cater to everything from colds to blisters to heart attacks.
This is why many people believe strings were pulled or money was given under the table to someone in order to have her moved to house arrest.

Supposedly it was "purely psychological". I read that somewhere but I forgot where. But who's surprised? I just don't understand how she could have gotten away with it. How many people complaining to guards of "I want to go home" or "I feel too homesick" would have ACTUALLY been sent home? Maybe Paris convinced them in other ways....
