Goldsmiths.

The goldsmith had a secure strong room and people stored their gold there. They were given a receipt for the gold. When they needed to pay a bill they realized the receipt was as acceptable as gold. These receipts became the first "paper money".

Actually, until recently, paper money had a statement printed on it that it could be traded for its real value - indicating it could be traded for gold. Fort Knox became the "strong room" for all the paper currency.

thats tough, the last guy said a and that could very well be right. I know the first paper was weaved. But you would have to write on it. Then it could be scribes. Punch your teacher in the face and tell him his class is retarded.
