No, the little earthquakes after the big ones are aftershocks -- the earth is just settling down. Most likely, there won't be a HUGE one coming up.
Although, nobody can predict earthquakes. And we've been having an awful lot of them lately! (I'm in Japan, and we've had three that have shaken the wind chimes in my room just this year!)

Dear friend. The earthquakes are caused by the sudden release of energy in the tectonic plate boundaries. If it gave way after prolonged years the edges of tectonic plate will be smooth and the first release of earthquake will have more intensity. The plate end surfaces can not be smooth if the earthquake happens in the particular region very often. It is not happening in a predetermined ways. Therefore some times the first quake may be very big and you may find several small quakes after wards. Some times it is vice varsa. I have seen both the cases from the earthquake records. If you are interested just register with USGS earthquake site. You will get the data's regularly on free of cost. You can conduct the study on this. I am the man issued the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our Indian coast. Several scientific factors helped me to issue the warning. But our local T.V.people refused to broad cast the message.

There are many earthquakes around the world everyday. Go to http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsww/ for a earth view of the daily/weekly events. Click on any earthquake and it will give you the information about the event.

It's possible, though most of the time really big quakes do not have precursor quakes. It could also mean that the built up energy is being released slowly by many smaller quakes so that there won't be a larger quake (at least in the near future).

so in japan where you live it is very known that japan lays in a very active place of earthquakes and vulcanes because earth is made by very very large tectonic plates . when this plates move forwards (in your case when pacific plate move forwards aziatic plate)cause earthquakes and volcanic erupsions,so in the future the intensity of earthquakes will depend by the amplitude of this crash between this two tectonic plates ,if the amplitude will be high japan will suffer from big earthquakes and the contrary, bye

Might be aftershocks. Do you live in California? Most likely they are aftershocks..but I have heard this might tell us that there might be a larger earthquake in the future..in other words these after shocks can tell us there might be a bigger one coming.

The guy thought you lived in California? What difference would that make.
No, the smaller shocks show that the big ones are over. In hope you don't live in Tokyo or Kyoto.

earthquakes all have four shocks and after shocks with can range form 6.7 to a 8.1 and there are always aftershocks with also can be Major or miner shocks deepening how close you are to the epic center

probably not usually there is a bigger one followed by aftershocks that get smaller and smaller. Every once in a while there will be one that is bigger than the first one.
