the ratio of david's working days to michael's
4 : 1
total they work 5 days
to get 10 days
8 : 2
$3000 / 10 days = $300
since David worked 8 days, he should get $300 times 8 days = $2400

Compute man-days for each person. Then divide the $3K by the number of man days. Multiply this result by 14, the number of man-days David worked.

let rate per day be x for both
4x+x+10*2x=3000
25x=3000
x=120
Since David worked for 14 days in all
Therefore, David received
=14*120
=1680
