Kneeling roses disappearing,
Into Moses’ dry mouth,
Breaking into Fort Knox,
Stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!

Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth.
La la la la la la la la la,
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.
Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

there you go, couldn't post the whole thing or i would get a violation.

Actually this is a relatively new phenomenon...think back historically speaking...Theodore Roosevelt, Eisenhower, JFK, Ford, Regan...they all served, so I don't think you can use generalities like that. Additionally, you're doing the same about "sending the poor", that's not the case. Some of the finest and educated men and women are there soley due to wanting to support and defend their country. Perhaps you need to look at this from a different view point. I personally know many that do not agree with President Bush, but they are determined to do their duty in spite of him.

Your insinuation is saddening. The president is in a decision making political position. He is obviously not in the shape to be fighting wars. It is like a big ladder, the president being at the top and the goal is at the ground. Each rung of the ladder is closer than the president. He gives a generalized order, and he passes it onto the next rung, which is still closer to the ground yet not close enough. And so on...As for the poor, well not all those who ENLIST are not poor first of all. And those who are poor who do enlist go for more than just serving their country. They join for the benefits like college education and health care when they cannot afford it. There are many rich people who have joined the military and were successful. But that is another discussion.

... go back to school while you can, before you drop this "send the poor" idea here again.

(1) Once again, people enlist in the US army because they choose to, not because they were asked/drafted. In fact, the benefits from the US military services are by far the best in the world. In order to receive such nice benefit, one of the many risks is going to a war. You can't simply receive all the best benefits but refuse to pay the price (or, fufill your duty).

(2) Children from financially more secured families also go to military schools. However, the percentage will be lower for the following reasons: [1] lots of the families know the risk, and decide not to take the benefit, [2] total percentage of poor people will always be greater than the middle class or "rich" people in any country.

Don't want to go into any war? Don't take the benefit. Just that simple.

The last time I checked, we had a volunteer army that was sent into battle by an elected President and the bipartisan support of Congress. This volunteer army continues to exist and continues to fight a war funded with bipartisan support. Now I do not think you can get any more democratic than having a volunteer army being funded by a democratically elected legislature.

Furthermore, anyone who is serving in Iraq at the moment has had to enlist or reenlist since 9/11. If you did not know we would be fighting after 9/11, you must have lived in a cave for your entire existence.

Now if your premise is correct, you should be in the military already.

Heads of state have not participated in fighting since Napoleon. It's not only the poor who fight.

The benefits and opportunities in the Military are attractive but the rich people don't need to enlist in order to have access to these.

Is this a serious question? You don't understand why heads of state don't fight on the frontlines? And what do you mean send the poor? I want our men and women home as much as the next guy, but they signed up for the military, it's not like someone abducted them and forced them into service or conscripted them. It may be true that many in the armed forces come from a poorer background, but it is an opportunity to advance themselves if they survive, or if they are lucky enough to serve and finish their service in peacetime.
