I was diagnosed with pcos last year but believe that I have had it since I was 16 and I am 32 now. Are there any specific tests that I can take to see if I am infertile? I ask my doctor this and he says since you are not trying now it is of no consequence. I desperately want children someday but would like to know now what I need to do when the time comes.

Sounds like you need a new doctor - you might try consulting an endocrinologist instead of a regular ob/gyn. Most ob/gyns don't have a lot of experience treating women who have an actual illness - they mostly just meddle with women who are healthy enough to be pregnant. But you really need to see a doctor with extensive experience with pcos - it can be a very complex disorder, involving more than just a malfunction of your ovaries. My mother and one of my cousins has pcos, and there's a TON of testing that can be done, and that needs to be done to treat you appropriately. My mother was not infertile, but her cycle was wildly erratic, with no way to predict when she would be fertile - she actually conceived once during her period. My cousin was infertile, or so she was told. When she was 42, she was feeling terrible, and was really puffy with water retention, but it was the holidays, and her regular doctor was on vacation. The stranger doctor, who didn't know she was infertile, tested her for pregnancy. She was 5 months pregnant, and had preeclampsia. The baby had to be delivered early, but they were both fine. So, even if you are "infertile", it doesn't mean you might not get a surprise later on if you get good treatment now for your pcos.

yes with PCOS may b u ll face some problems if u want to conceive but it can be treated with medicine like glocophage or clomid etc I know many people have kids even they had PCOS but the best thing is to talk to ur doctor abt that now, u said u r 32 and i think you should start thinking abt having the family ASAP because age factor is also very imp and with complication like pcos u need to take action soon, i was told that i had PCOS so i bought 4 books on that but then my doc found out that it is related to hypothalamus gland,PCOS is the major reason for infertility in many women, also look at the website http://www.pcos.insulitelabs.com/PCOS-and-Infertility.php
Mostly they do the blood work and check the hormones level to know the reason behind infertility.
My advice is that talk to ur doc about the options u have and start thinking abt getting pregnant. Best of Luck & Take care:)

even if you are not currently ttc you should be managing your pcos. See if you can find a different Gyno, there are treatment options out there. If you do have a partner and are ready to have kids soon (like the next 2 yrs) you may want to start reproductive therapies now, it can take awhile to concieve with PCOS.

Your gyno gave you a crappy answer to your question. if you want to concieve someday then you should begin to figure out your cycles not. when the time comes you will possibly be put on a fertility drug to ensure that you ovulate every month

Ovulation days give you the days that you are ovulating which are basically your fertile days.
