I'm now 23 but 10 years ago I was raped. The guy that did it is still in prison...To close this chapter in my life I have been wanting to write a letter to him forgiving him for what he did to me...Do you think this would be a good idea or should I just leave it alone and move on anyways...

Writing a letter or something similar is probably a good idea, but do not send it to him. It's wonderful that you have chosen to forgive him, that's probably a huge weight off your chest. But starting contact with him may end up having consequences you dont need to deal with. Write the letter to get the feelings out then put it away somewhere you wont see it.

Maybe write the letter, but dont give it to him. This would allow you to let out all of your feelings and forgive yourself for what happened. After writing the letter, maybe burn it to signify that you are moving on and will never think about the incident again. Good luck to you.

I agree with all the people who say to write the letter than burn it. Getting it off your chest will help you, but sending the letter is not a good idea.

the rape of a thirteen year old is beyond ......
Well you do what you feel is right for you ... however ...remember this idiot may have been just thinking for the passed ten years about the last great time he had .... do you wanna run the risk of creating the impression that another girl may forgive him in time if her were to repeat his act?

Only you can look in the mirror and make this decision ... make the decision for you, just think about all the possible ramifications before your act .

Good Luck

Go for it.......it is all about what will make you feel better and move on with your life. I think it is great that you aren't dwelling on it (drinking and all pilled out) send the letter and set the rest of your mind at ease.
Good luck!

Definetly write the letter, pour you heart out! But dont send it to him, he neither deserves nor desires it, i'm sure. He should live with what he did to you, and if he gets your forgiveness, it may send the message that what he did was ok. DO it for yourself, not for him.

I wouldn't want to write the guy who raped me a letter. I think you should leave it alone.

write the letter and then burn it. You need to forgive him For YOU to move on. Not for him. If you don't feel better after you burn it then write another one and send it.

it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. it says a lot about you if you write him a letter because it shows that you are better than he is (which you already know you are cuz i mean really) but are you trying to "save" him or what? again, it really depends on your motives. he doenst really need to know that you forgive him because he probably doesnt care, but he might by some miracle and be a better person, but that is doubtful. rethink it before you write it. good luck!!!!
