My 1999 chevy tahoe rpm and speedometer does not always work and when it doesnt it drives like crap. what can i do to fix this problem?

It could be as simple as a bad ground. They can be a real pain to find too. You may need to foot the bill and have it hooked up to a scanner. Only problem is if the problem is a bad ground the scanner won't tell you that but it will show other problems that aren't really problems at all sometimes.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) may drive the speedometer and is an important sensor input to your Engine Control Management (ECM) computer. That would account for the poor engine performance at the same time the speedometer doesn't work. It's an inexpensive part and easy to replace where it's mounted on the side of your transmission.

Take it to an auto electric repair shop and have them take a look. good luck with it.
