i think it might be a transmission problem

Check the adjustment of the shifter linkage---probably worn or just out of adjustment....should be a threaded swivel attaching a rod to the bellcrank from the trans....loosen the swivel locking bolt, adjust the swivel on the rod to line up with the trans lever---have the shifter in park position and trans lever in park position and retighten swivel bolt.

You have something misaligned with the shifter. The neutral safety switch should not be making while the shifter is in reverse. Something may have slipped and needs to be realigned. good luck.
