I not sure where to find a meaning. This is really a learned process that takes time and interacting with people. Rich or Poor.
I have lived life and I tell people life is people, getting out in the "Real World" not watching some show on TV.
People have a safe zone. You enter that zone, you should be able to tell. We may back up or cross our arms. If, a person drops their arms, watch their hands, they my be moving into a defense stance!
A person that not look you in the eyes is either, shy, hurt, or depressed. Just a few, but, there a reason you learn in time from knowing the person, not reading a book.
They say if a person lie they move their eyes to the their right, your left. But, it can also be what they think of you. Psychologists not want to hear this as they taught the "norm".
A thief will come into your house. As you talk, watch them, they looking at everything you have, not you! Though some people out of curiosity look. You can learn a difference, very easy, when you know people.
I know people like the back of my hand, why? I have lived from the East Coast to the West Coast, and I live life and not hole up in my house and watch TV and think that want the world is.
Psychologists only know the book, not life. They feel everything has a norm. True, I know psychologists that use my method, they know it not always a norm.
I KNOW people, been around them all my life and not in front of a TV or reading some book that tell me how they are!
I can read a person in 15 minutes, but, it takes getting out there and truly being a friend, not a back stabber.

Most people would suggest Alan, which I think is good. I don't recommend Lie To Me* it does teach gestures, but not in real time and they use them in a way that highlights them. When reading body language you don't look at specific gestures, but the whole cluster of emotions that they are showing to get a good idea. If you look at only one gesture then you will probably have the wrong idea. I also suggest "The Definitive Book of Body Language." I got it when I first got into it, and it was not only extremely helpful but funny and a good read. It not only shows and explains gestures but things like why we do them, or the science behind them. It's an excellent starting book.

Check out the book "Body Language" by Alan and Barbara Pease. It's a good book giving you an idea of some of the body language you can look out for --- such as how to know if a memeber of the opposite sex is interested in you based on body language, how to figure out if a person is bored even though they are nodding their head and 'listening' to you etc...

Well if someone crosses their arms or feet they tend to be guarded about something or not completely comfortable. Also liars tend to hang their heads and not look you in the eyes. You'd be surprised how much you already know about body language. It's pretty much the way you would sum a person up by looking at the them in general. Think to yourself, what are they thinking about, why are they wearing that, etc. You may want to check out Wikipedia.org. You can find great references on all kinds of things on that site.

Every cell in our body send specific signal that " I am living ". But the frequency of this signal varies from cell to cell, If you want to interpret this signal you at first must know the meaning of such signals. For this you must study the behavioral science, and anatomy, This will be the beginning of the main study of body language, practice and hard work will bring professional depth in you.

watch for facial expressions, especially the eyes, also look at what they're doing with their hands eg. fidgeting with their hands can mean they're nervous etc.
