On my 2007 ZZR600 there is a little lever on the left hand grip. I am sure someone will know what this is for. I am guessing that it is the choke but honestly I have no idea. when it is up the bike starts fine but when it is down the bike wont start at all. Just wondering.

That IS the choke, and when you open it up a bit (pull towards you), it richens the air/fuel mix to let the bike start and fast idle better until it gets warmed up.

Once the engine is warm enough to show a temperature reading, you don't need the choke open anymore and should close it before riding. If the engine won't start when it's warm, then have the dealer re-check the carb/jetting. They should have already set it for your altitude before you rode it off the lot.

Also, have your first oil change ASAP, like within 100 miles or so. It helps the engine break in better.

Sounds like the choke. My hubby's bike has a little lever and the choke sign/picture is not too far from it.

Kawasaki used to put a warning flasher on that switch.
Press the switch and the turn signals flash continously.
I don't think that's what's on your bike.
Since the ZZR is the race model, maybe it's the lap counter.
Press it once to start the clock. Press it again to stop it.
Like some other people have said - look in the owners manual.

Why don't you read your owners manual and find out. By the way, that little lever on the left side is the clutch, and the one just like it on the other side is the brake.

Im not familiar with your bike but it cold possibly be the engine kill switch. You should become a little more familiar with your bike before riding it if you arent sure what the controls on your handlebars are, however....
