Hey, nothing wrong with a little variety. I grew up on 80's music and Devo rocks, I still love 80's new wave stuff, in fact I actually have vinyl copies of the Police and Men At Work in the house. My wife goes into thrift stores looking for records and I found a 45 of some P-Funk song which I grabbed. Your right about the bluegrass that is some insane finger picking, that and I've always loved the way a mandolin sounds. I will listen to just about anything. BTW in college I did 2 radio shows one year one was my metal show, the other I played tradtional Irish and Scottish music(imagine the looks I got when I bought a Cheiftans and an Altan Cd while wearing a Slayer t-shirt). Limiting yourself to one kind of music gets boring after awhile.

haha, I am so with you!! My mother was Ozzy's biggest fan, back in his younger rockin days hahah, soo I've grown up with all of the Black Label Society & stuff like that. I've become more of a fan of hardcore though. My favorite band right now is Hatebreed. I just saw them and it was the most amazing night of my life!!
I am a metal head..but none of my friends are. They always tell me that they're scared of my music when they visit my myspace page. Also, every single time someone finds out what I listen to they flip out and are like, "DUDE, I NEVER pictured you as a metal head!! NEVER!" haha. I actually record Headbangersball if I know I'm going to miss it hahah.
But honestly, I am a total prep. I wear the Hollister, the Abercrombie, all that good stuff. I spend hours on my hair a day. AND I am obsessed with sports. I play 3, but hockey is my absolute favorite sport.
As far as music goes, all of my friends listen to top 40 and pop, so I know every lyric to every song on the radio.
And I've honestly started to like some of the songs..
But yeah, I mean I'll always love metal, but it's definitely good to have a balance with other stuff. I think it's totally cool that you love DEVO and bluegrass! It's nice to change it up and expand your preferences!!
Yayy!
=)

My husband and I are both life long metal heads but we have our secret musical loves also. David Bowie, The Cure, The Police, The Cramps, The Ramones, The Misfits, and a few others that we just don't tell anyone about.

Hey Amigo! Right Here! My heart is set on Metal, Judas Priest, COC, Anthrax, you name it I love it! But I also have that same crazy side, believe it or not I like that Time song by Culture Club, INXS is probably another weird Favorite where I like all there tunes. So there is your answer, Yes, We like music, and for whatever reason, maybe the rift or the beat, maybe all those tunes have some primal stir in us.
Keep the brain melting!

I am a 40 year old woman who works in a convenience store who loves Metallica, Godsmack, Megadeth. Im not much into nu-metal. But I also love Prince and Kelly Clarkson.(I think shed be an awesome heavy metal singer.) I flit from one genre to another. Last week I was downloading The Gossip and Madonna. This week, Im listening to Amy Winehouse. Next week, who knows??? Thats how you get old-you quit exploring new things, new sounds, new ideas. P.S.-If you havent listened to the Gossip, I highly recommend them. Beth Ditto rocks!!

I never considered myself a metal head but if the Zep's metal (even though Plant says it isn't...) then hell yea I'm a metalhead!!!
But seriously, I listen to Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and alot of other folk which is not typical of Opeth fans. And wait for this...... I still listen to the Backstreet Boys in random urges for pop. Beat that!!!!

I am pretty much the same as you, growing up on Zep, Alice, Kiss, etc and I still love rock and also like the newer bands like Godsmack, Disturbed, Manson but I also do love Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Joan Osbourne, Steeleye Span, Donovan and do like a fair bit of indian film music. Infact I was a total indian film music buff till I heard American Woman by the Guess Who. It blew me over and I was hooked. I am from Singapore, asian indian by race so it explains about the indian film music I guess.

I think that, since metal is such a fringe interest, in order to get into it, you've got to be one of those people who's not afraid to try new things and doesn't care what people's expectations are.
As a result, I, an extreme metal fan, listen to all sorts of music, including 60's folk-rock, modern indie, dub, punk, trip-hop... And I don't know anyone who likes metal exclusively and only metal.

I'm not really a metal head. More of an alternative rock girl. But I absolutely love bluegrass. The Avett Brothers are amazing, you should check them out if you don't know them already.
