It causes air pollution due to creation of nitrogen oxides (N2O, NO2, etc.), sulfur oxides, ash, etc.

It causes global warming because use of fossil fuels emits carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.

It causes water pollution because transport of fossil fuels may cause oil spills in marine environments (a prominent example would be the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska in 1989).
