Bush has announced that he wants to install a missile system in Poland and Czechoslovakia; Putin has announced that he will take steps against the European countries if this occurs.

President Bush has made plans to build a missile defense network in central Europe including 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar detector in the Czech Republic. This has caused some upheaval in Russia because these missiles would upset the balance of power in Europe and could be used to attack Russia. Bush claims that these are purely for missile defense against attacks from "rogue" states, but some people are not believing it. Now Putin is saying that he too will begin a missile build up targeting Europe if Bush goes through with his plan. As you might know Russia and US building up weapons against each other is not a good thing.

The reason this is a big issue right now is partially because the Group of Eight summit is being held in Germany this week and the two sides have a chance to talk about this. There have been a few plans proposed to end the miniature crisis, and even the French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been busy trying to resolve the issue.

Hopefully they will be able to settle this without any radical actions. Personally, I can see both sides and think that both are sort of stupid. I really do not wanna go back to the Cold War years but it really is looking like it just might happen. Lets jsut hope it doesn't.

The Russians were not happy about a proposed missile defense system. (Which is goofy, since they proposed it a few years ago.) As of now, it appears that the issue may be settleable by careful choice of where to put the missile sites.
