I have had this awful and reoccuring problem for years, and I have done quite a lot of research on the subject. There are MANY things which can cause them, (I'm sure you've read them all), but I have found that the things which most often cause mine are caffeine, alcohol, and not urinating before bed or after sex. Of course, with everyone, it is different. Because cutting out any of the above listed things is not an option, (at least not in my life!), I take cranberry pills and Vitamin-C tablets RELIGIOUSLY, and it really, really helps.
Have you seen a doctor? Reoccurring UTI's may require a VERY strong medication- I was once on a pill which made me more sick than I was when I had the UTI! But that is just the medicine working to kill the bacteria. After that dosage, my UTIs have been few and far between. I think the combination of the vitamins and the medicine have helped.
Good luck, and I'm sorry that you have to deal with this! It is such a painful sickness. Best wishes.

You may be one of the many people who are susceptable to UTI's and have to have a maintenence protocal to prevent reoccurance. If the Ph level inside your bladder is not acidic enough, you may repeatedly get a UTI again and again. Drink at least 8oz. of cranberry juice daily. Also, drink plenty of water. 2-3 8oz. glasses a day at the minimum. If you don't like the taste of cranberry juice, you may buy cranberry capsules at the drugstore. Some other preventives are to wear cotten underwear because it provides more ventilation. Always maintain good personal hygiene. If you are sexually active, urinating afterwards helps to rinse away any bacteria. After you void urine, you must wipe from front to back. Women are at much higher risk for UTI's than men simply because of their anatomical structure. A mans' ureathra is apprx. eight inches long, a womans' is about an inch, so bacteria and germs may gain entrance into the urinary tract through the opening of the ureathra. It seems like a lot to remember, but it's not once you get used to the routine. This practice will save you a lot of money, time, pain & discomfort. The effort will be well worth it in the long-run.

ALWAYS wipe from front to back and wear cotton underwear and clothes that are not so tight in that area. Urinary stasis is one of the major causes of UTIs so be sure to go to the bathroom when you have the urge and after sex to flush the the bacteria because urine is sterile. If you don't it may harbor bacterial growth. Cranberry juice is said to help because it is said to lower the pH of urine, thus bacteria is not likely to grow in that environment. Drink plenty of fluids and practice good perineal hygiene.
Make sure you go to the Dr. if you have one so you can be prescribed with antiobiotics or it can spread to the kidneys and cause major damage.

In addition to the above answers:
Before sex, drink water. After sex, wash yourself there.
These help prevent UTIs.

Try wiping from front to back when you urinate. Cut caffeine out of your diet and carbonated drinks. Drink lots of water. Sometime sexual intercourse can cause them too. Please talk to your doctor. Good Luck!
