It's a curious thing

It's a curious thing, that bond,
And of it I used to be very fond.
But now I look at it a new way,
And I almost....I dread the day.
I see why it fails, it's obvious,
And 50% say it's not so fabulous.
What a pledge, think about it!
The rationale just doesn't fit.
Don't get me wrong, 50% work out,
I wonder, what's the fuss about?
Perhaps it's disney, fantasy land,
But wow, it's such a huge demand.
With such a low success rate,
Why do people still participate?
Is it because they really want to?
Or is it just what they 'should' do?
Although almost half of them fail,
There's still half that do prevail.
Over which half should one ponder?
This is what I wonder, as I wander.
As I wander, down a divided path,
One that splits, the world in half.

So really, why do people do it? I guess i've lost my desire to marry but I want to regain it and don't know why...

Sometimes your happy, other times you fake it,
You have to have faith, that yours will make it,
Have respect, trust, room to grow and a chance to vent,
It takes a lot of work to be in the right fifty percent.

Marriage is a job as well as an adventure, if you want it to work you have to work at it.

I'm 24 and have been married 5 years (in a few days). Marrying my wife was the best thing I have ever done in my entire life. To answer your question "why not just live together and avoid the occasional pressure generated by marriage on one or both parties involved?" Here's why: Getting married tells the other person you're in it for the long haul and you think they are worth committing to. It lets them know you won't just be hitting the road when things get tough. It says that you are willing to strap down and make it work and not just take the easy way out. It tells them unquestionably that out of all of the billions of people on earth, they are special enough to spend the rest of your life with.

My divorce rate is zero. Been married long time too and plan on keeping it that way.

Not to be callous, but who gives a fig about the others divorce rates!

You can't worry about other people--plus, the divorce rates are much lower for people who have never lived together before marriage, and certain ethnic and religious groups. And much higher for those who marry more than once and have step children.

your glass sounds half full. mine however, is spilling over the brim. i am married and couldnt be happier. there were days when we wondered if we would make it through, but its such a growing process. my husband is amazing. if there is a will, there is a way. anyways, its better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all. there are still amazing, loving, faithful people out there...

I think people get married because marriage still brings security in a relationship. For me, when i got married, i erased divorce in my vocabulary. There are still people like me who believe that marriages do last. My grandparents will be celebrating their 64th wedding anniv., my parents their 40th this year. When you have examples like these, then you work on being on the 50% that don't divorce :)

the divorce rate is high because people who get divorce get married again and tend to divorced again. So when one gets married, they do not have a 50 percent chance of it ending, it is lower than that. People who remarry and keeping divorcing are the ones who keep the rate up high

Nice poem. Because some people don't want to dissappoint God by not getting married and other people just want to be with someone who will take care of them.

Actually, the divorce rate has infact come down quite a bit. It's not nearly as high as it used to be.

BECAUSE A COMMITED LOVE BOND IS A GOOD STATE TO BE IN....PEOPLE LIVE LONGER WHEN THEY HAVE LOVE IN THEIR LIFE WITH THEIR 'BEST FRIEND', THEY ARE HEALTHIER, THEY ARE MORE RELAXED....AND, AT LEAST 50% OF THEM ARE HAPPY!

I HAVE BEEN MARRIED TWICE, AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING SOMEONE WHO DESERVES ME! I '''HAD''' BAD TASTE IN MEN; BUT, NOW I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR.

HOW ABOUT YOU? YOU HAVE A CHOICE TO BE OPTOMISTIC OR PESSIMISTIC. THAT WILL DETERMINE YOUR 50% THAT YOU BELONG IN.
