At first they have their days and nights confused. They want to sleep off and on all day and be up most of the night. If you try to bathe or play with them before bed to keep them up then they will sleep a little longer and get used to sleeping at night. Really it is said that newborns sleep an average of 17 hours in a 24 hour period of time. My advice is to sleep when they sleep because you can not teach a newborn your schedule you have to adjust to theirs for the most part. You will have plenty of time to get things done during the day. Also, keep the tv or something going so that the baby is used to noise while sleeping....otherwise you will never be able to move or take a phone call or wash dishes while the baby is sleeping. Good Luck.

Wakes up at 7am
Sleeps at 9 am
Wakes up at 11 am
sleeps at 1 pm
wakes up at 2 pm
sleeps at 5 pm
wakes up at 530-6pm
sleeps at 730-8pm
(every night his sleeping changes...sometimes he will wake up again at about 11..sometimes he sleeps all the way until 4am.)
Its usually 1 or the other. There are still nights when he wakes up more, and days when he doesnt sleep so much, but this is his normal schedule...with a few variations day to day
He is 6 months old.

my son is six months old and he goes to bed betwwen 8-9 then wakes betwwen 4-6 and if it is 4 he will eat and go back to sleep till 8 but if it is 6 he is up, never did i think i would be happier to be woken up earlier but here we are... and if he gets up at 6 he takes a two hour nap around 9-10 and then he is up the rest of the day unless we are in the car or he is in the stroller.

When our son was born, he was up every 2 hours around the clock for a bottle. He had a bottle every 2 hours until he was 2 months old, then he went to every 3 hours, and by 5 months, it was every 4 hours around the clock.
Our son is now 12 months old
He goes to bed at 9:30m
Up at 12:30am for a bottle, back to sleep at 1am
Up at 5:30am for another bottle, back to sleep at 5:45am
Wakes up at 9am for the day!

She'll wake at about 8 AM
Sleep at 9AM
Wake at 12PM
Sleep at 1 PM
Wake at 4PM
Sleep at 5 PM
Wake at 8PM
She just went to sleep at 9PM
Wake at 11PM
Sleep at 11:30PM
Wake at 3:30AM
Sleep at 4AM
Wake at 8AM
and so it goes....She's 6 days old, by the way. I'm curious to see what others have to say about their own babies.

I recommend "On Becomming Babywise" by Gary Ezzo and
Robert Bucknam. It offers a great plan for sleeping and feeding which benefits both parent and child.
