N = 2000*2^(-1.5) = 707

2000*2^-1.5

2000 is the population now. it doubles (*2) ever hour. you have to go into the past one and a half hours (^-1.5) to get the population.

an hour ago... it would have been 1000
an hour before that it would have been 500... half way inbetween there is 750
