Everytime I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen, it makes me nauseous. I have a year's prescription, so I need to learn to deal with it, and I am desperately searching for ways to alleviate my upset stomach. I've tried taking it with food, and with a full glass of water... I've also tried taking it at different times of day, and nothing seems to work. Is it normal that I feel this way? And what can I do to help lessen these side effects?

Many people find that taking the pill at bedtime allows them to sleep through the nausea. If you've just started taking it, keep in mind too, that many side effects will go away within the first three months of taking the pill, and if they persist longer than three months, that particular pill may not be a good fit for you. Not all pills are good for all people, and how you experience side effects is unique to your body and your chemistry, and unfortunately, finding the one that works for you is an inexact science. If you've tried the pill for three months or more, and you 're still having serious side effects, you may want to consider switching pills-even if you've got a prescription for a year, the doctor may change it.

Good luck.

your doc can get you a different prescription, but you might have this problem with most BC pills...I'd take them at night, just before bed, but that is a hard time to take them faithfully (necesary for effectiveness)

Yougart helps with nausea...

I'm sure you'll get used to them in time, good luck

Try taking them at night. When I was on tri-cyclen, I used to have the same problem with them making me sick when I tried them in the daytime. I switched to nights and I didn't have anymore problems of nausea after that. You can also try to eat saltine crackers when you take them or eat something light.

Side effects can be worse when you start a new medicine, so this should get better over the next month or so. In the mean time try sucking on peppermints and drinking as ice cold of water as you can get. I was nauseous during both of my pregnancies constantly and that helped me.

Sometimes this will pass after a few months. You may want to contact your doctor and change the pill. Sometimes it takes several tries to get the right one. Good Luck!

See if your doctor can switch your prescription to some birth control method which does not have to go through your stomach.....like the injection, the patch, or the nuvaring. If you tell your doc that you are unhappy, he/she should rewrite your rx with no problem.

Try a pill with a lower level of hormones. The lower the hormone level, the less side effects you will have.
