I'm not certain what your point is, but, yes, often times a person CAN remember something said 10 years ago, but not something said 10 minutes ago. Perhaps what was said 10 years ago was more momentous. I can remember what I was doing when they announced that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated!
Also, many types of memory loss are that way; I can better remember things 50 years ago than things one day ago.
Is this what you are referring to?

LOL
As a long-time sufferer of CRS ("Can't Remember Stuff"), yes... Now, what was the question? Wait, where am I and who drove?

Actually, in all seriousness I do have trouble remembering the day-to-day conversations (or at least with whom I've had them). Much of what I do runs together (clean your room, do your homework, why is your sister crying?) because it's repeated over and over... But there are things I remember very clearly from many years ago. Mostly it has to do with the level of personal significance...

Doctor: You know they say short term memory is the second thing to go.
Patient: So what's the first?
Doctor: I can't remember.

If you "don't remember nothing", it means you DO remember something. Obviously YOU don't remember the rule of double negatives.
