this happens for Earth in June. wierd huh? we are furthest from the sun in the summer (North America)

Aphelion is indeed the correct answer, but the generic turm for the point in an orbit most distant from the central body is apoapsis. The nearest point is the periapsis. The line between them is known as the line of apsides, and this line is also the major axis of the orbit (with the semi-major axis being half of this line, starting from the center to the edge).
Aphelion/perihelion is sun-specific. Apogee and perigee is Earth specific. I've always heard apislune and perislune for the moon though...

The farthest point is aphelion, from the Greek "apo" meaning "far", and "helios" meaning "sun".
The closest point is perihelion, from the Greek "per" meaning "near" and "helios" meaning "sun".
