I recently was told by the family of my daughter's rapist that they have copies of my victim impact statement released by the DA. Before i wrote it I had asked my caseworker from the victim's rights unit if they would see it and she assured me that it would be private. Is this a violation of my rights to privacy? To make it even worse...the family is related to my fiancee and now they are trying to get him to leave me over the information they obtained.

I would definately ask your lawyer or counselor about this.

No, your rights weren't violated. Of course the 'rapist's' attorney would be able to get ahold of that statement. That's where the 'rapist' got it. That is just common sense. I suggest you see an attorney about this. It sounds to me like you might need help in the future, such as a protection order, etc.

Was the privacy assurance in writing? Or just a verbal, your word against the caseworker's word?
