WalMart is a larger presence in China than in the U.S.A. mostly because of its manufacturing and distribution facilities. WalMart forces its suppliers to move to China to take advantage of lower labor costs and less government regulation and infringement. It then exploits workers, often working them as much as 18 hours a day and firing them if they dare 'call in sick'. Working conditions are pathetic; vendors and suppliers often are forced into bankruptcy because of the way they're browbeaten into selling their goods at low prices. American workers don't fare much better. WalMart mistreats its female employees, who make up a large percentage of its workforce, by hiring them as 'part timers' that aren't entitled to benefits, insurance, or pensions.
So, we all enjoy "low prices - everyday" at the expense of underpaid, overworked employees both here and abroad. We buy all that useless plastic junk no one really needs that has been manufactured by small companies often unable to make a profit because of WalMart's buying strategies. Still, four of Sam Walton's descendants are always listed on Forbes' magazine's list of the ten richest people in the world. While they browbeat suppliers and vendors into selling at little or no profit, WalMart makes BILLIONS of dollars in profits that all goes back to the Bentonville bandits. WalMart seldom participates in local community projects (such as local festivals, Chambers of Commerce, service club donations, etc.(, yet it drives the local businesses out of business while promising gullible city leaders that new jobs will be created within the community. And the Walton family sits back on a stash of cash that would reach to the moon while their employees, suppliers, and even their customers suffer (do a little real 'comparison shopping' and you'll find out that WalMart is not always the lowest price except on its many 'loss leaders').
I have never set foot into a WalMart store and never will.
On their road to becoming the world's largest and most profitable business, they have trampled on the rights and prosperity of millions of other human beings around the globe.
By the way, the one WalMart family member died when his private jet crashed. -RKO- 06/07/07

They were only forced by the internal push to lower prices.
Coleman lanterns sold well in Wal-Mart but Wal-Mart came to Coleman and forced them to buy lanterns from China to keep their account. Just to give a lower price to their customers. No other reason. Coleman did it and the amount of lost jobs over many companies was large.

not only take their business to China, Walmart has unions in all its store in China. One wonders why Chinese workers get to be unionized, but American Walmart workers do not get the option of this luxury to possibly increase their meager wages.
