YES! That was a bunch of crap that she got released due to a medical illness of some sort, according to TMZ it was due to a mental illness...

It's not preferential. There are other people who do the same thing. LA county is so bad, most people are turned out for small crimes(like this) and others for more hainous(sp) crimes and given house arrest.

She is still being punished. She cant go to parties, cant go to red carpets. It's bad for her publicity in the fact she wont be seen. But good, because she has street cred now.

God Bless America. The Sheriff's cool head prevailed and he defused a potentially hostile situation both outside his jail as well as inside.

The L.A. County Sheriff cannot be fired.

Leroy David Baca (born May 27, 1942 in East Los Angeles, California) is the Sheriff of Los Angeles County, California.

Baca was elected Los Angeles County's 30th Sheriff against his mentor Sherman Block, who had died in office days prior to the election but remained on the ballot. He was sworn in on 7 December 1998.

Baca was reelected to a third term in 2006. He has been criticized for proposing a half-percent sales tax increase in 2004 to hire more deputy sheriffs and for releasing inmates from the Los Angeles County Jail.

Statistics

The LASD is the largest sheriff's department and the fourth largest state or local law enforcement agency in the United States with over 16,000 employees, over 8,400 of whom are sworn deputies. Leroy D. Baca is the current sheriff.

LASD deputies provided law enforcement services to 2,557,754 residents in an area of 3,171 square miles both in the unincorporated County land and within the contract cities (1995 figure).

The Sheriff's Department also operates one the largest jail systems which provides short-term incarceration services for all of the County (including the cities like Los Angeles which have their own police departments). The Men's Central Jail (MCJ) and Twin Towers Correctional Facility (TTCF) are located in a dense cluster northeast of Union Station that is next to the station's rail yard. The North County Correctional Facility (NCCF) is the largest of the four jail facilities locacted at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, California.

Some of the newer contract cities like Santa Clarita and West Hollywood have never had police departments. When their city governments were founded, they took over what was formerly unincorporated land, but then contracted their police responsibilities right back to the county sheriff. Since the sheriff already had substations in those areas anyway, the result was to maintain the status quo.

In contrast, Compton, California, used to have a police department, but in 2000 the city council voted to dismantle the police department and become a contract city. Compton has been at times notorious for gang violence.

LA County Sheriff's academy training is at Sheriffs Training and Regional Services Center (STARS Center) in Whittier. Reserves may use either STARS Center or College of the Canyons for academy training.

It goes a lot higher that some stupid sheriff my friend. He's the low man on the totem pole and has very little say in what really happens if any. Look at the system

Yes. A very negative message is being sent out. What, was she so scared that someone thought she was having a mental break down so lets get her home.

I don't believe that she has really learned anything from this experience other than how to be more careful and how not to get caught.

It's not preferential treatment. LA County jails are overcrowded and non-violent inmates are frequently released before serving their entire terms.
