I went out and tried to start my lawnmower. It started up fine (better than expected because it was given to me for free); however, when I went to push it, I noticed there wasn't any grass being cut. Now, of course I didn't keep it running and tilt it up to check, but I can only assume the blade wasn't spinning. It's a Honda Commercial push mower that is also self propelled. The model is unclear. Any ideas?

With the mower off, I lifted it and tried to spin the blade by hand, but it didn't move. Should I be able to spin it by hand?

Maybe there is a clutch that needs to be engaged to start the blade. Or maybe the blade came off but I'm sure you checked that first.

Check if the blade is on upside down. Sounds silly, but it happens way more often than you might think. It should be flat side down.
Also, some Honda mowers have what is called a blade brake clutch that allows the engine to keep running while the blade is stopped when the mower is idling. The clutch engages and disengages automatically, it is not operator controlled. This is a safety feature required by law. If that clutch is defective, the blade may indeed not be turning for you. You need to take it to a qualified technician to have the clutch checked because the mechanism is somewhat complicated and not something you can fix yourself.

The blade should attach to a P.T.O. shaft under the mower body make sure that the nut that attaches the two are tight.
This should take care of it. If not there are major problems inside the engine.

Check the belt that connects the blade to the motor.

make advantageous the blade is seated precise (some blades could sit down under the proper the spindle and can be the the superb option way up) and tighten as challenging as attainable verify that as quickly as you change the blade the engine tries to tutor, verify anycontinual belts and attempt returned. it fairly is attainable that spindle is broken its self!
