Feds to suspend border passport rule
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is poised to suspend a major post-9/11 security initiative to cope with increasingly angry complaints from Americans whose summer vacations are threatened by new passport rules.

What about the uproar over TB guy getting through security with a red flag on his passport info and Bush saying OBL was threatening another attack? Isn't this stupid to relax border security?

It has NOTHING to do with inconveniencing people; that's a lame excuse. The problem is that they don't have the manpower to process the applications in a timely fashion because, yet again, they failed executing a pretty good rule.

For example, I needed to go to India on business this past March and didn't have my passport renewed so I paid a little extra and still got my passport expedited in time for the trip (1 month.)

Also if you go to their website, you'll know that if you need a passport PDQ, you can go to select locations and if you have you itinerary, the proper required paperwork, and CASH, you can have it on the same day.

What a disappointment.

The rule making that nessecary was only implemented a few months ago. Prior to that, you could go to those places mentioned in the article without a passport. The problem here is that even though they had been reminding people for months about the new rule, there were enough ignorant air-heads that didn't get a passport, that they have to suspend the rule to accomodate those people who are the STUPID ones.

If nationalism, territoriality and other acts of social categorization didn't exist in the first place, we wouldn't have any of these problems now. Not war, not terrorism, not "national security threats"; none of it. Stupid isn't relaxing border security. Stupidity is being so obtuse as to think things like "borders" were necessary for peaceful survival to begin with. Of course, explaining that to humanity is like trying to teach a dog algebra.

This is only further proof that the the draconian measures put in place post 911 have nothing to do with national security and are more about controlling the average the average American citizen.

It is stupid to relax the border security, considering it is pretty lax atm. As far as the passport back log, it is all about the benjamins.

If you had been held up for half a year for a routine passport renewal, you'd understand.
