OMG!!! I go through this all time. With one particular person I know it's just because he feels that he knows EVERYTHING and he's not trying to hear what anyone else is saying.
It's sooooo annoying.

I do that with my grandmother every day! She is losing her hearing AND she pretends like she can't hear when she doesn't feel like listening...which makes it extra difficult.
