Why do some stories only appear in foreign news media, when American media know the truth? What happened to freedom of speech in America, and why aren't Americans allowed to hear the truth about American greed around the world?

Much of over seas news is filtered, but our press still enjoy more freedom than many countries around the world. And you can get foreign news channel on satellite. You can get Al Jazeera or others on satellite TV now. You can use internet to access information filtered on TV media.

It is not really a 'true' gov censorship. It's more like the gov knows how to play media game. They're not shutting out information. You can go on internet, get satellite TV...etc. They might make it harder for you to get info, but they won't stop you.

America's media has become fat and lazy, just as most other elements of our society and culture. It used to be that the 'fourth estate' was the watchdog over government, keeping citizens informed of what their public officials were doing and keeping an eye on the public trust.
Nowadays, the media is just like all other 'big business' - it looks out only for the 'bottom line' and therefore finds it more 'cost effective' to simply read the government press releases verbatim instead of questioning the veracity of those statements. Investigative reporting, skepticism, 'digging' for the real story (or truth) is simply far too inconvenient, expensive and time-consuming. Better to get the story on the air instantly, without checking the facts, investigating the accuracy, or questioning the purpose of the 'story'. -RKO- 06/07/07
