You will be fine. You only need to worry if you were consuming spoiled, contaminated meat. And I highly doubt you did from subway. I ate subway when I was pregnant both my children and they are just fine! Congratulations and Good Luck!

Okay...first of all....CALM DOWN and take a DEEP breath!

They say you shouldn't eat deli meat as there is a VERY slight chance of getting listeria. That is very unlikely however. Have you ever met anyone who contracted any sickness from eating a deli meat that was properly refridgerated? My guess is no.

I have eaten deli meats through out my pregnancy (now at 34 weeks!) and I have been fine. There are worse things out there to do while pregnant (that many women do anyway!) and their babies are fine. So, unless you have an immune defficiency disorder, don't worry about it. Some women smoke. One woman I knew didn't even know she got pregnant (she was on a birth control where you only get your period every 4 months) and she drank beer and God knows what else until she found out at 18 weeks! Her baby was fine - surprisingly. Not that I recommend smoking or drinking - I'm just making my point that you could have ingested somethinga lot worse than some deli meat.

If this hasn't made you feel better - talk to your doc. I'm sure he'll tell you the same thing. Don't worry so much!!

Here you go, check this out. This was an email I got from babyfit.com the other day which contains info about deli meats, etc and their safety.

I'd say its not likely to happen although we preggies are warned not to eat meats unless they're re-heated until steaming (You can always ask the people behind the counter at Subway to warm your Melt up next time round though!)
If you were going to suffer from lysteria poisoning, you'd certainly know about it by now as its a pretty nasty tummy upset to have!

And, its not necessarily going to kill your baby-your friend was being a bit OTT there! It can if its a REALLY serious case but most of the time it'll cause tummy upsets, diarrhoea, vomiting, etc.
Hope this helps!

You will be fine as well as baby. I know you are really worried but stressing this bad is actually worse than the subway meat I am sure. It is ok that you ate it, just dont make it a big habit. However, if you WANT to eat out at delis and such just request they nuke the meat before you eat it just to be on the safe side. It is very understandable. This will also make you feel better too. You will be ok, ;-) Things like this happen in pregnancy, it wont be the first thing someone tells you to scare the crap out of you. Best wishes to you and congrads on baby.

The concern with deli meats (fresh or not) and open salad bars is a bacteria called listeria. It can send a pregnant woman into preterm labor. You would know if you had a problem a few days after consumption. It's up there with caffeine....you should really avoid it in the future; but you are probably OK. Unprocessed meats are an even bigger concern than those containing nitrates...just avoid for the next few months...you'll be happy in the long run.

I would rather be safe than sorry, my doc told me not to eat deli meat or hotdogs so I don't. I know I will enjoy it that much more after I deliver my baby. One time or two will most likely not affect your baby but why chance it, just say no to deli. I get the veggie sub (with cheese) from subway and it is great.

Chances are your baby will be fine....deli meats along with processed meats (like hot dogs) and unpasturized dairy products can cary the bacteria that cause Listeriosis. If contracted this can be fatal to the baby. While it is not something to be terribly concerned about, you should take precautions such as heating deli meats and other processed meats to steaming in the microwave before consuming and avoiding dairy products that are not pasturized. I am 15 weeks pregnant with my second child and this time around I am really craving deli meats....go figure....I eat them, I just make sure they are heated before I do so.....enjoy your pregnancy....

I don't know why people do that. You are going to be okay. Deli meat is okay to eat when you are pregnant. Millions of women eat deli meat while pregnant all the time. Lysteria is a serious bacteria, but the chances of the meat you ate at Subway having it in it is very, very slim. Don't listen to people. I say again, I don't know why people feel it necessary to tell prego ladies all these scary horror stories and get them all in a panic.

Deli meats, hot dogs, sausages, bacon etc. contain NITRATES & that is what you should be concerned about. You can buy nitrate-free products. I wouldn't worry about eating subway a few times, but don't make it a daily thing there are better things for you anyway. If you're still concerned talk to you doctor.

The bacteria will not kill your baby! If you get ill from ingesting the bacteria and develop a fever or other complications THAT is what will harm your baby. It is a good idea to steer clear of deli meat from subway or other sandwich shops because it is so processed and the environment in which it is served is not the most sanitary. If you want deli sandwiches, buy fresh natural, unprocessed meat to avoid any risk.
