I also do alot of ghost hunting. I belong to a Paranormal group and what we use is, digital tape-recorders, digital cameras and I will sometimes use my manual camera which is a Pentax K1,000. We also use EMF reader and dowsing rods. All work very good and we get alot of things from the use of all of it.
My dream is to one day have an infra-red camera and an infra-red Video camera fall out of the sky and right into my hands. Don't really need to use the last two as for us these are luxories and we are not any of us from the rich side of the tracks.
I have several excellent pics of apparitions and some good and clear EVPs from the tape-recorders that we use. I have been doing this for over 10 years now and in reality one does not need all the fancy stuff they have out there. Trust me, even ones hearing can be enough. I have been in the situation before also.
I really love the investigations and the work that goes into it beforehand. I don't want to quit this for a very long time. Not even with some of the not so nice things that have happened to me personally. I for me feel rewarded by it all. I have been around ghosts my whole life so far and live in a haunted house with my husband.
I hope I was able to give you some ideas to continue your work. Just really remember even if we want the state of the art things, they are not at all necessary to do this work.
I hope also that you are serious about what you do and that you are able to keep doing it for a long also. Hang in there and do have some fun with it also. Thank- you for your question. It may also help someone else out with the same kind of question you just asked.
Good Luck in your investigations.

The best tool is a sharp ear to pay attention with when you are hearing stories. I have a sister inlaw and her nieces who are convinced that they hads a ghost in an old farmhouse they lived in. My sister told me once that the haunting ended one day when the Kids were playing upstairs and she saw an old man come down the stairs He put a hat that he picked up from nothing on the wall onto his head. Then he looked at her and said, "Those darn Kids, a Soul can get no rest at all areound here, I am leaving." Then he walked out through the front door without opening it.
Nobody ever saw him again and the little neices quit complaining about the man at the top of the stairs that was always telling them to play quiet or go downstairs.

Who knows? I would not call my sister inlaw or my nieces fibbers.

I think the hair on the back of your neck would work! I have a great book, it is one of those orange "idiots guide" books. It is called The idiots guide to ghosts and hauntings. There is tons of stuff in it, and a whole chapter on ameture ghost hunting. Have Fun!

Have you ever watched "The Ghost Hunters?" They have a website (taps.com) where they tell you how to investigate. They cover all the equipment they use. Good luck, ghost hunting!

I've seen enough Ghost Hunters to know that it is good to have a mini-recorder to record EVPs. On a higher budget DVR cameras, infrared cameras, and laptop computers to see what is going on. If you don't have much money start with a mini-recorder and a digital camera. Also, it would be good to find a software program to analyze your Electronic Voice Phenomenon.

Perhaps a digital camera for pictures, some sort of video recorder, and a tape recorder for EVP work.

be careful, according to popular Christian belief, ghousts are really demons that can appear in any form and trick or fool a person into believing they are a deceased person when they really are not. They can just take any form. And then get close enough to you to possess your soul and turn you into and evil person.
