Paris might claim that the sheriff promised to release her in return for some "special favors";
The sheriff might have been bamboozled by Ms. Hilton's psychiatrist, who may have claimed some kind of strange 'medical' condition existed that made the sheriff believe Ms. Hilton's life was in imminent danger;
Paris could have faked some kind of 'medical' condition convincingly enough to fool the sheriff or her doctors;
Someone might have been given a 'pay off' in return for her early release.
