What should I do about my sister. Last year my mom went into a diabetic coma and the decision was made for me to move in with her (I was able to transfer to her location which was 80 miles away from where I was). But all my sister can think about is that I am taking advantage of mom. I don't think I am. I pay rent and part of the utilities plus buy 95% of the groceries. I also run errande, etc. My sister even went so far as to contact adult protective services. They closed the case as mom told them there was nothing wrong. What should I do, anything. I sent her a letter stating that if she didn't stop, I would sue her. Anyone know if that is an option. BTW she also sent emails to various family members (aunts, cousins) telling what a bad person I am.

The decision was made by mom and myself. My sister is unable to care for mom as she is married and has 4 children and her husband was unwilling to make the move. I have two adult nieces that would have been willing but they both have young children and have already shown that mom would be the one caring for the kids.

no, you can't sue her...and quite frankly, even if it was an option, it wouldn't be smart to do...it wouldj ust cause more tension in your family than already exisits...and you are doing what you are doing to keep things stable, not create chaos.

Honestly, I think she is hurt that she isn't the one who is caring for your mom...I bet she feels she could do better than you,and is trying to rift the waters to take over.

If you had asked about sending that letter I would have advised against it.

The two people that matter in your arrangement are you & your mom, as long as you two are square, other people's opinions, even your sister, doesn't matter.

You didn't say who made the decision for you to move in with your mom. Was you sister involved?

I would guess your sister is concerned about your getting the inside track with mom, so to speak, and how that might affect distribution of your mom's estate.

Hard to say what to do about it. I would try to ignore it. Legal things really get messy in a family.
If your conscience is clear, I would just not pay too much attention to it. If your sister is just blowing smoke, the relatives she is contacting will soon find the truth.

a clear conscience is a wonderful thing. as long as you and your mom know how things are, everyone else can say what they want....and your sister, if she if so worried about your mum, why doesn't she take care of her for a change...

This is ridiculous, she may be your sister, but she is very selfish, she know's ritelly you are not taking advantage, but she is jealous. If i were you (and i know this sounds harsh)i would cut off all contact with her and let her do and say as she pleases.
much love.xxx

That is horrible. But do not sue her. You would be stooping to her level. Just continue doing what you are doing. You are obviously doing the right thing.

i'm really sorry,
but i really think u should ignore her,
dont bother telling ur family that she is wrong, they know you im sure..
but if its impossible,
maybe try asking her, what does she want from you,
but in a sincere way..

tell her honestly what you feel. she wont stop unless you told her face to face. just tell her that your not taking advantage and you pay 95% of th groceries. tell her to stop coz thats not normal anymore and thats not funny.
