drive is in the device manger list and is supposedly working. but when i put a data disk in it won't read it. same with an audio disk. any help will be appreciated.

its got to be one of two things either bad media or a bad rom. make sure that the data cable is not loose or broken from the connector on the main board to the connection to the drive see if the media works in another rom.

I had an identical undertaking with a Amilo professional V3515. First it stopped writing CD's, then it stopped reading DVD's and CD's that I had written to. Now this is going to in easy terms learn documents CD's. i finished up determining to purchase an outdoors DVD/RW. i think of of they're designed to fail in easy words after their assure has run out.

Do you have any other drives, either in the computer, or sitting around as spares? Try them and see if they work to see if it's a cable or a motherboard issue. Most likely, your drive is dead though.

Maybe it came unplugged on the inside or maybe the scanner is dirty?
