I feel sorry for people of any nation suffering any disaster. It's important to remember that individuals or ordinary citizens should not be maligned or made to suffer for the decisions of a few unscrupulous leaders. Why is it that when anything bad happens to an American or a Brit, there are people who respond as if these are the chosen few? We are all human beings, and no, I wouldn't go to bed rejoicing about this disaster. These are thinking, feeling people who are just like you and me. They have innocent little children who cry and cling to their parents in fear the same as ours would under the circumstances. How would you feel if they were your babies, your family members? Try to see the trees and not just the forest.

Well of course we sympathize, but bad storms happen a lot in the US and other countries too. The US often suffers extensive devastation from hurricanes, which is what they are called over here. The areas devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, have not yet been rebuilt fully. Many people who were displaced will never return to where they lived before.
I am thankful to live in California where we usually only have earthquakes and wildfires, which are easier to deal with.
