Barring human intervention, it's a virtual certainty that the Earth will be hit by a comet at some point in the future.
However, if our technology develops to the point where we can divert comets from impacting our planet, it's entirely possible that the human factor will safeguard our planet from any such impacts, at least for as long as humanity is around.
On the other hand, there's the possibility that a comet or asteroid will be deliberately targeted at Earth... who knows what future wars and madmen may bring?
Anyway, I'm optimistic. I don't believe there will be any such impact within the foreseeable future, and I'm quite willing to let the unforeseeable future take care of itself.

I don't know what the current view is, but Louis Frank came up with the idea that the Earth is hit by a small comet about once every 3 seconds!

I dont think so if it does it better do it in the next few decades because we can deflect them we just need to be able to track them better, If you land several nukes on the surface of a comet or astroid but only covering one side and detonate it will have an effect like scwezing a wattter mellon seed in youre fingers. but if we have no time to plan for it then sure but I think we would see it comeing most likley and we would be able to budge it out of our way. answer is mostly no

Probably - we don't know when but not in the forseeable future (no comets that we know of at this time on a collision course with Earth).
But its happened before (all kinds of evidence in the fossil record) so it can happen again.

It has been hit before and will probably be hit again. But probably not for thousands of years. Probably. Nobody really knows when. It is like lightening that way. No way to predict when or where on Earth the next strike will be, but we know there will be future strikes.

The answer is definitely yes; the other question to be asked is, "When?" - and that's the hard one to answer. We saw Jupiter get struck 15 years ago; it'll happen to Earth also, but it could be 100 days from now or 100 million years from now.

there are literally trillions of object orbiting our sun. sometimes they react with one another (in addition to the sun's gravitational pull) that sends one hurtling toward the sun...sometimes toward earth. the odds seem to say that it's not a matter of it earth will get hit, but when. comets aren't the only threat: meteors, asteroids, etc. are potential problems.

It's been hit by many things in the past and there's no reason to think it won't get hit by things in the future.

Yes. the only question is how big and destructive it will be. If its big and we see it coming, however, we might be able to avert it (see Deep Impact and Armageddon lol)
