i bought a local webcam that's supposed to be plug-n-play. it works for my dad's laptop. but when i tried it on my laptop, it can't work. when it is detected by my computer when i plugged it in, it's still looking for a driver.

Try AMCAP. It works for me.

Unfortunately no there is not a generic usb webcam driver on the market. You will have to go to the manufacturers website and download the newest drivers for your operating system.

I'm guessing that the reason why the camera doesnt work on your laptop is because it has an older operating system than XP SP2, such as Windows 2000/ME/98 which is often the case in situations like this when the driver database is outdated.
