If you must use wi fi then theres only two ways you can do this.
1) You need to get yourself a wireless adapter for your Main computer and set up internet connection sharing on it.
2) Buy yourself a wireless modem router. It will usually be in place of your existing modem and will have 4 wired ethernet connections (so you just plug in your main computer and you're good to go). It will also have wi-fi which will allow you to connect via your laptop.

The router would be your best option since you dont need to keep your main computer turned on constantly.

Or... are you able to use the modem you already have and set it up for your laptop? The only problem with that is your tied by cable..

You can connect to the internet from your current ISP.

You need a router to interface the router WAN port to the ISP's modem. Your current pc, which I assume is wired, connects to a LAN port of the router.

The notebook can also be wired into a wired LAN port or, if you have a wireless router, it can be configured to access the router wirelessly.

If you need help with the wireless router, write again and we can help you through this.

If your PC has a wireless card fitted it will be just a matter of running your Internet Provider set up disc in the laptop and then you will be OK

If your main PC has not got a wireless transmitter built in then you will have to see about buying one and fitting it.

If you are on ADSL then you may be better off fitting a cordless router.
