35% of the population claim to be conservative while only 28% claim to be truly liberal. That leaves 37% of the people in the middle. If the Reps will go after their base at least half of the middle will go their way. They need to act conservative and they will win.

Not during the primary elections. That would be suicidal. Right now the Dem candidates are appealing to the left wing anti-war fanatics while most Repubs are appealing to the Christian right, the anti-illegal alien group(Except for McCain), and the pro-Iraq war crowd.

During the general election the candidates will move towards the center to gain the votes of the moderates and independents. But, they will not move too far away from their base. If a Repub candidate comes out for illegal aliens, he will lose his base, and not pick up many Dem votes because all the Dem candidates are strongly pro La Raza and pro illegal aliens.

I believe they already have.
Many Americans who are Democrats and Independents are outraged by the proposed Amnesty Bill being rammed through congress with nary a chance of debate.

The top candidates who oppose uncontrolled immigration and Amnesty are Guliani, Romney, Thompson (both of them), and quite a few others.

Those who WANT illegal immigration and Amnesty:
McCain, Hillary, Obama, and pretty much all the other Democrats.

Since when have Democrats wanted to expand the ranks of the poor, while enriching corporations who hire illegals?
Democrats and Independents I welcome you to the fold if you wish to patriotically guard our nation from this threat. You do have candidates you can vote for. However, your party has not candidates that support your beliefs.

Each candidate should try to appeal to the general populace, rather than simply the support of their own party. The President is elected to lead the American people, not just a political party.

Any the TRIES to appeal to Democrats (or Republicans for that matter) will alienate voters from BOTH parties. Someone that actually BELIEVES in what they say, WILL appeal to voters of both parties. My answer to your question is, both of your options are wrong.

Appealing to democrats is usless. Democrats in my point of view have absolutly no common sense. Any smart republican candidate could figure out that trying to appeal to democrats would be useless.

in all probability Ron Paul. not one of the different applicants seems to comprehend something approximately economics and as far as united statesa. could desire to subject, the financial equipment is the only difficulty in this election. Any candidate who claims God advised them to run or who wears their faith like a badge is right this moment disqualified on the grounds of insanity. If I reported voices in my head advised me to run for place of work, i could be locked up. yet because of the fact they declare those voices are a lot of human beings's imaginary pal it is okay? Ha!

Yes, they should try to appeal to all voters while standing strongly by their moral principles of right and wrong.

A Presidential candidate should try to appeal to AMERICANS.

Of course, these days, that pretty much rules out Democrats, who are typically anti-American.
