YOu are able to play Gamecube titles as well on the Wii.
If you have a working internet connection and are able to hook your Wii to the internet, you can get the shop channel, which'll let you play games from these consoles:
Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Turbografx 64, Nintendo 64
However, these will cost points from special cards you can get in the stores, Which cost from 10-20 dollars

Get a wii points card, they are sold in most game stores and they allow you to download virtual console games, if you want to check whats available just go to the shopping channel and see what games and consoles are there.

You can play gamecube games on the wii. If you do, you also need the gamecube controller and memory card. :)
